The Red Tent: A Sacred Space for Women

Throughout history, the Red Tent has been a sacred space for women—a place where they could retreat during menstruation, pregnancy, peri-menopause, menopause, and other significant phases of life. In these tents, women gathered to nurture each other, share wisdom, and tune into their intuition during heightened periods of awareness. This time apart was not only for rest but for reflection, emotional processing, and gaining insights into their lives.
Women would emerge renewed and restored, ready to re-enter their communities with clarity and strength. Rituals of care—such as massage, storytelling, and shared wisdom about cycles, fertility, pregnancy, and menopause—helped women honour their bodies and the rhythms of nature.
This timeless tradition has inspired my business, Red Tent Ireland.
So why is the revival of the Red Tent so important today? Why do we need spaces where women can gather, connect, and feel supported in ways that honour their cycles, their emotions, and their unique journeys?
In this modern era, women are facing unprecedented levels of isolation and disconnection. The demands of work, financial pressures, and balancing careers with family often leave little time or energy for meaningful connection or self-care. Unlike generations before, where close-knit communities and extended families provided emotional and practical support, many women now find themselves navigating life feeling alone and overwhelmed. This lack of connection has deeply impacted mental health, fertility, and awareness of how the natural cycles and phases of life shape emotional and physical wellbeing.
The Red Tent tradition offers a much-needed space for women to come together, share, and honour the sacred feminine. Rooted in ancient teachings known as the “blood mysteries,” it reconnects women with their innate wisdom—reminding us of a time when women’s bodies, in harmony with the moon, guided the rhythms of life. Through community and support, women can rediscover balance, empowerment, and a sense of belonging.
Why I Chose the Name Red Tent Ireland
As a qualified Red Tent facilitator with over two decades of Science based research, study, and training in women’s health and well-being, I’ve seen how vital it is for women to have spaces like the Red Tent in today’s world.
Growing up, I was taught that women could do anything men could do, and while I wholeheartedly believe in equality, I also realised that I was ignoring my own body’s wisdom. Like many women, I was working against my cycle instead of with it. I pushed through feelings of low energy, disregarded emotional shifts, and ignored the power of my feminine body.
Over time, as I delved into understanding the phases and cycles of women’s lives—menstrual cycles, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause—I began aligning with my body instead of fighting against it. This alignment changed everything. I discovered the empowerment that comes from embracing the natural flow of my body and its rhythms.
I created Red Tent Ireland to provide women with spaces to connect, reflect, and nurture themselves. Through women’s circles, yoga, holistic therapies, and coaching, I aim to offer support and empowerment rooted in the wisdom of the Red Tent tradition.
My Vision for Red Tent Ireland
At Red Tent Ireland, my vision is to create a community where women feel supported, safe, and empowered. It’s about fostering connection and helping women honour their bodies’ wisdom.
I want women to work with their cycles and bodies, rather than against them. Empowerment doesn’t have to follow a masculine model—it can be deeply feminine, rooted in self-compassion and self-awareness. Through this connection to their bodies, women can find balance, strength, and clarity in every phase of life.
Aligning My Offerings with the Red Tent Tradition
The essence of the Red Tent is community, support, and shared wisdom. My work embodies these values through:
• Facilitated Women’s Circles: These spaces allow women to share experiences, process emotions, and receive guidance in a supportive environment. Each circle is an opportunity to connect deeply with oneself and others.
• Well Woman Womb Yoga: This practice honours the cycles and seasons of a woman’s life. It includes movements that support womb health, feminine empowerment, and emotional balance. My background in belly dancing also influences these practices, as belly dance originated as a way to support women’s womb health.
• Holistic Therapies: With 17 years of experience and training in over 15 therapies—including massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, and baby massage—I offer tailored treatments to help women balance hormones, calm the nervous system, and restore their overall health.
• Coaching and Nutrition Guidance: As a life coach and nutritional therapist, I help women align their lifestyles with their cycles. Women’s bodies have unique needs, and I guide clients to nourish themselves in ways that support hormonal balance, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being.
Research shows that much of the advice on fitness, nutrition, and medicine is based on studies conducted on men, which often doesn’t account for the unique needs of women’s bodies. For example, high-intensity exercise can spike cortisol levels, signalling a state of stress that makes the body hold onto weight. By understanding their bodies and cycles, women can stop working against themselves and instead create a sense of safety and balance that allows them to thrive.
A Space to Renew and Restore
Red Tent Ireland is about more than providing services; it’s about creating a space for transformation. Just as the Red Tent allowed women to emerge renewed and restored, I hope the circles, yoga, therapies, and coaching I offer empower women to feel balanced, connected, and in tune with their own wisdom.
If you’re ready to step into a space of support and empowerment, join one of my women’s circles, yoga classes, or holistic therapies. Together, we’ll honour your journey and help you align with the natural rhythms of your body and life.
